A spoonful of sugar

Standard

Every now and then they treat us to a nice buffet lunch at work, today was one of those days – this was to celebrate the opening of our newly renovated office (well, we have been working in it for a while now but guess it can still be called new). Unfortunately for me there weren’t that many things I could eat, suffering from food allergies that I do (and many things on that list are often used in Asian cooking) this is something I am getting quite used to though. My rumbling stomach doesn’t really agree with that. Time to hit the snacks and cookie drawer soon me thinks. Yes, we have one of those. For good and bad. Mostly bad.

I was going to show you a pic of the buffet as it was a really nice one but I only thought about taking a pic of it when it looked a real mess so instead I’ll post some of my various likes on Pinterest this week. Maybe not the same thing but hey…

Who needs reality TV when you can have real life…

Neighbors of mine seems to have had serious relationships issues for a while but today it really escalated – and it has all taken place in our lift lobby. It started off this morning when I was waiting for the lift…could hear the woman of the house yelling at the man, calling him a loser and a few more well chosen words (slightly better than last time though as she then said something in the lines of “I killed my brother and got away with it and I can do the same with you”…). Thinking nothing more of it, I went off to work.

Coming back home this evening, it continued. She ran out of the house, yelling and screaming as per usual and off she went. 20 minutes later she is back and starts pounding on the door. Apparently he has locked her out. She is furious and starts screaming that he has someone in the house, demanding to know who it is. Needless to say he didn’t answer. She gets even madder and decides to call the police. While she waits she is rambling to herself, alternating with screaming at him through the door. Still he doesn’t open (big surprise there!). She then starts yelling things that are not made for print. Police arrives. She screams a bit more. Demands to get in to get her stuff. Telling the police he has thrown her out the window at one occasion (we live on the 16ht floor…don’t think she would be standing up if that was entirely true), smashed her glasses, stolen her money etc. etc. One of the police men finally get to go in to speak to the man, when coming back out he seems to have a little less sympathy with the woman. She ends up having a bit of argument with them. Not a smart move. Even less smart is then saying she will kill the man. At this point I can’t help but start giggling a bit. She is rather entertaining.

To cut a long story short. She seems to have decided to move out. Has some bags packed and is escorted out by the police. Her parting words – “Sorry neighbors, don’t be friends with him, he is a bad man. He doesn’t want me. He wants men. He is gay”. This is where I start to laugh. Quietly though as she is a tad bit scary. And I do value my life.

I don’t think we’ve seen the end of this story but fingers crossed we get some peace and quiet around here.

At least for a while.

Transformation in Humanity

Those of you who know me, know that I am member of a fundraising committee for WE CARE, an out patience service center treating addictive diseases in Singapore. Addiction is not something really talked about here – it is getting more press now though since we got the casinos and more people facing gambling addictions – hence there is not much funding to be had for helping those who need it. And there really is a need for it.

So, to help raise funds for the center we are arranging a cocktail on May 26, in a most fantastic Colonial house on Goodwood Hill – if you are in Singapore and interested in buying tickets do let me know! If you can’t come, go have a look at the web auction we are arranging in connection with this, there are some really nice things up for grabs. You can have a look here.
